About

Ionic Lodge 227 was not named as such from its inception in 1798.

Ionic Lodge 227, is among a very few “Atholl” or “Antient” Lodges still in existence today (2023)

In 1798, Princess of Wales’s Fencible Cavalry Lodge 312 was formed in Manchester and the warrant

the surrendered possibly because the cavalry was disbanded.

In 1810, warrant number 312 was allocated to Machanical Lodge, founded in Woolwich, London.

In 1814, Machanical Lodge was re-registered under warrant number 397 following the union of

Antients Grand Lodge and Premier Grand Lodge in 1813

In 1825, Machanical Lodge was renamed as Ionic Lodge with the same warrant number 397

In 1832, Ionic Lodge was re-registered under warrant number 275

In 1863, Ionic Lodge was again re-registered under warrant number 227 and has remained the same since.
